Learn to Let Go

DAY 6

It has been said, forgiveness is the release, on the part of the offended party, of any expectation that a debt will be repaid or that an offender will receive punishment for an offense. This is hard to do at times. There is a lot of leaning (or trust) that is needed in order to let go and forgive. Also, there is a lot of love needed in order to let go and forgive. We should learn to let go and forgive like the Lord.

While on the mountain of God, Moses is given the commandments while the Children of Israel await at the bottom of the mountain. The Lord passes before Moses and says in Exodus 34 that He is “merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, and forgiving iniquity and transgression of sin.”

And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin,
-- Exodus 34:6-7a (KJV)

Some commentaries will tell you that when it says “Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin” that it is speaking of God’s mercy and forgiveness lasting for a thousand generations. Is that not amazing of our God? That is a gracious, longsuffering, and forgiving God.

The Apostle Paul tells us to put on mercy, longsuffering, and forgiveness as the chosen people of God in Colossians 3.

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
-- Colossians 3:12-13 (KJV)

The Apostle John tells us that God is faithful to forgive us and cleans us if we simply confess in 1 John 1. Thank God that he is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
-- 1 John 1:9 (KJV)

Lord help us to forgive our neighbors like you have forgiven us.

Let’s learn to let go and forgive like Jesus.

DAY 6 SCRIPTURES

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
-- Matthew 6:12, 14-15 (KJV)
